Excellent article, well written. I've been in China for years but never was brave enough to brave the Chinese dentists. After reading your article it seems less daunting. Full Comment>>

As had been said over and over, China needs a major revamping of its education system, from the top to the bottom. Forcing students to do mountains of homework with no real result just makes bored, listless individuals with no hope. It's quite clear why parents ship their kids out of China for education. And quite ... Full Comment>>

Who said I accepted anything? You just imagined something that I never said or intended to say. Your reply is confusing at best since it is barely and vaguely related to anything I said. I respect others and things around the bubble...I think I do, at least if I could figure out what that actually means. I was only ... Full Comment>>

The English have such clarity on America. In reality, the government of the U.S. is so gridlocked that nothing effective can ever get done. This is well agreed upon by the majority of my American friends. Obama is just shucking and jiving trying to find something that works. Unfortunately, not much is working. And ... Full Comment>>

Jun 27,2014 13:03 comment|47928|34639

Everyone in Shenzhen is mad about getting a car. They now add 300,000 cars to the roads here each year. There are 1.75 million parking spaces in the city, yet there are nearly 3 million cars registered in Shenzhen. Roads with barely any cars 5 years ago are now packed wall to wall, mostly with drivers having less ... Full Comment>>

What a rambling nonsensical article. The point is what? That some foreigners are ridiculously stupid? That's true. That the security guard was doing his job? Good for him. This article just reports some facts of an incident, yet lacks any statement of purpose. Full Comment>>

You create the world you're living in. The Chinese are just the people who YOU'VE chosen to be around. If this isn't working for you, leave. Go to that nirvanic, idyllic dreamland in your head. Stop bitching about the Chinese. China is actually changing so fast, at least in Shenzhen, that it's a bit dizzying. If you ... Full Comment>>

Bitter sentiment? Again, you were probably well on the way to sociopathy (and I don't mean 'quasi') long before you arrived. What a wimpy assessment. 'Become like Chinese people'? What stereotypical racist B*LLSH*T. Go home before you start another war. Or better still, join the army so you can fight the war within ... Full Comment>>

All of those factors may be true, but the biggest barrier to working for a Chinese company is the language. Unless you are quite fluent in spoken and written Mandarin (Putonghua), you are somewhat of a liability since you always need a translator/interpreter. That requires two people to do the job of one. Inflation is taking a big bite out of my paycheck these days. If I live dirt cheap (like some Chinese) I can save a few bucks. But things in Shenzhen are getting crazy expensive. If there's a city where it's cheap to live, the pay is low. If you're willing to live below your means, you can make an ok living, but you ... Full Comment>>
