expatlife26 on news What’s With the Stigma for ESL Teachers in China?(4 comments)

Jan 18,2024 04:54 comment|90850|262996

It's not rocket science...it's just that teacher is (usually) the floor for westerners living in China. It's a high floor, and one as the article points out comes with a lot of perks. You're better off living as an ESL teacher in China than almost any working-class job in the US. But...look at the non-teacher ... Full Comment>>

I guarantee you that's not the guy in the photo. Does that guy look like he's in jail or under arrest? No that's just some poor schmuck signing a household registration or visa form in a waiting room with another casually dressed guy standing next to him. My comment was on how that guy in the photo is probably just ... Full Comment>>

I wonder who that's a picture of. It looks like it's just some guy signing a form. What are the odds he's a sex offender? I would be so pissed if there was an article like "Foreign Businessman Boils Baby!" and then a photo of me sitting at a desk or talking on a phone. Even with the face blurred! Full Comment>>

Apr 16,2015 10:40 comment|58703|262996

This is a really amateurish article for a bunch of reasons. Foremost is that the topic is supposed to be China can't attract foreign professionals, which implies that there is a strong demand for them which is unmet due to unfavorable circumstances. In practice though the article is more about how there ISNT demand ... Full Comment>>

I wouldn't say women don't work as much as men. I don't have the numbers to back this up but in most offices i've seen here women outnumber men by at least a little, when the reverse should be true demographically even if your theory is correct that women don't want to work. Full Comment>>
