Always ask. One day you may just get an answer, and that feels like a blessing. Full Comment>>

Definitely worth it for the sense of freedom it gives you. I am already trying to figure out how I"m going to get mine back to London…Lithium batteries don't travel well. Good luck out West! Full Comment>>

Thank you Coineineagh. I wouldn't take my blogs too seriously - just using some artistic licence (or exaggeration). Chun Yun is often referred to as largest annual movement of people (not all creatures as you so rightly point out). I'm sure there are probably larger migration of butterflies, birds or something. Feel ... Full Comment>>

Blogs : littlemissmoo Posted a new blog Death of a Coffee Shop

Recently spotted in an alien newspaper, the moving story of Karen Lloyd (51), who chose to be buried in a "Costa" branded coffin with the words "One shot, extra hot skinny latte" engraved on the side. It turned out that Karen (before her death) loved nothing more than hanging out with her skinny latte in her ...

An interesting choice of photo to illustrate an article about China's cultural influence. The Beijing Grand Theatre was designed by a Frenchman. Full Comment>>

(Guangzhou) In Pulse : littlemissmoo commented on news 2 RMB For Guangzhou’s Water Bus

This new boat is great, though the routes are not entirely clear for foreigners (only in characters). Perfect if you have visitors to Guangzhou as you can take them on a cruise from the quay just near Canton Tower all the way to Shamian Island. Very smart inside with golden chairs and purple velvet... Full Comment>>

So far so good. Rumours are that if your e-bike has pedals (so you can at least pretend that you're pedalling) and is limited to 15 Km/H (mine does 30) then you are OK. Back in the summer, the police had a crackdown and confiscated bikes in Haizhu (a district in Guangzhou). The owners reacted by surrounding the ... Full Comment>>

Confession. I will start by saying that it's been a shameful 3 months since my last blog entry. I would not be surprised if most of my alien audience has tuned out by now. In fact, is it even legal to call it a blog?!? Getting right back to it. It struck me, that in all the advice dispensed to date and following the ...

Blogs : littlemissmoo Posted a new blog Contact

Appropriately, after being out of it for a while, my latest entry will focus on the topic of "Contact". After dealing with the life essentials of food and shelter, social interaction is another essential component of any alien's existence or even survival. Without Elliot to guide him, E.T. would never have learned ...

Articles : littlemissmoo commented on news Top 8 Sounds in China that Drive Expats Insane

It's a good explanation (or excuse). On a first class carriage to Hong kong, I assumed most of the people around me weren't "villagers". I've also travelled to much less developed countries where the standard of social etiquette (both in countryside and cities) was significantly higher. Full Comment>>

Hi Bayuvar139. Thanks for reading and for the encouragement! Re your comment, I'm living in Guangzhou where I more commonly hear the Cantonese slang phrase Gwai (or Gwei) Lo (鬼佬;). Mandarin speakers elsewhere might use Lao Wai (老外) which is probably the closest translation for Alien. I haven't Lao Gui yet? Does ... Full Comment>>

As I sat inside one torrential Guangzhou afternoon pickling my brain in American TV series mulch (courtesy of the DVD man on the corner), a wave of panic washed over me. Here I was 2 years into my time in China and I felt like I was losing myself in a sea of nothingness. I had lost my bearings. I wanted to go home. ...
