There's a band in Beijing called 重塑雕像的权利 (found them thanks to this site) so I don't think long names are totally unprecedented! Full Comment>>

Well this makes news in China, and Chinese people killing infants and children make news in America. I'd rather be stereotyped along with the dumb drunk kids! Full Comment>>

t91camp on news Chinese Media Shifts Blame to Foreigners Over Boy’s Graffiti Gaffe in Egypt (11 comments)
At no point did I excuse the behavior, only retards scratch graffiti onto things like a dog pissing on a tree. But if anyone truly believes touristy Great Wall sections have as much value as Egyptian artifacts, then they need to get their head examined. Full Comment>>
t91camp on news Chinese Media Shifts Blame to Foreigners Over Boy’s Graffiti Gaffe in Egypt (11 comments)
Critical flaw in their argument: the Egyptian relic was a work of art, whereas the "Great Wall" is just a bunch of (frequently remodeled) bricks. Full Comment>>
t91camp on news Blasphemous Buddha? Sexy Statue in Lijiang Draws Criticism(7 comments)
^ Depends on which denomination you ask. Personally, I'd be more offended by the location of the statue, than the statue itself. Religious iconography as tacky bar decorations... Ugh. China needs better interior designers! Full Comment>>

Buddhism is Indian originally, but the Chinese think they invented everything. Many bodhisattvas are pictured with their "consorts" in artistic representations (e.g. Vajrasattva). In Tibetan Buddhism, the monks often practice tantric sex with their students. Even Siddhartha Gautama had a child, according ... Full Comment>>

@Guest350516: I do know why the Japanese use Katakana. I was not referring to their use of Katakana as evidence of their language's growth, but their use of a word which is very similar to the one used globally. They essentially say "television" as closely to the original as the limits of their language ... Full Comment>>

Mattsm84 hit the nail on the head. The official was blaming foreigners in a passive-aggressive way, and the fields which don't emphasize English are pretty useless. Actually, most traditions are pretty useless in today's increasingly globalized and competitive society, and that isn't limited solely to Chinese ... Full Comment>>
