JanShanghai on news Three-Quarters of China’s Drug Users are Under the Age of 35(2 comments)
Terrible reporting. What kind of drugs are used by this age group? How are they able to collect these numbers? It all seems plucked out of thin air, these stats. In 6 months there were 265,000 newly discovered drug users? How did they get discovered? Are these stats easy to come by or...did someone just make all ... Full Comment>>
JanShanghai on news Hefei Supermarket Gives Away Live Chicks in Promotion, Angers Customers(8 comments)
The depths of disrespect and stupidity is astounding. Like said above, just when I thought I'd seen / heard everything...At least perhaps we can feel a bit relieved that common folk were concerned. I bet that wouldnt've happened a few years ago. I shudder to think of what will become of most of those little birds. ... Full Comment>>
JanShanghai on news Wild Panda Breaches Farm, Preys on Local Livestock(2 comments)
And why shouldn't this panda eat a lamb that is not protected properly within a secure area? That's the farmer's fault / bad luck. The panda has just as much right to find food in it's natural habitat as we do. Full Comment>>
JanShanghai on news Panda Misses Friend, Gets Depressed so Zookeepers Install a TV in Her Enclosure(5 comments)
Um no, it's not cool. A television for an animal?? Sitting in front of a picture machine to drone out the solitude and boredom? It's what depressed people do, and now we are making it "OK" for the animals in captivity. So we can maintain profits in ticket sales! OH dear! The panda is depressed and nobody ... Full Comment>>

I would like to know if, based on this new outbreak of H7N9, I should just avoid chicken altogether. I always buy the packaged (Tyson is it? can't remember, rigid plastic tray) at Carrefour. Are there precautions to check for quality ie. detection of infected chicken? My gut tells me that there is NO quality check ... Full Comment>>

JanShanghai on news Kookus.com: the Online Santa Claus For China Expats(5 comments)
I checked it out, I really like their selection of candles / holders, carpets and home furnishings. Lots of natural fibre products with a global style represented. Overpriced a bit, and they definitely need to increase their overall inventory. But it's nice to shop on an English website in China. Taobao drives me nuts. Full Comment>>
JanShanghai on news Zookeeper Killed By Tiger at Shanghai Zoo(7 comments)
yeah, I guess the old guy got comfortable around tigers and let his guard down. It just shows a broad lack of understanding about the animals; their needs, their motives, their natural behaviors and response to stress. Full Comment>>
JanShanghai on news Zookeeper Killed By Tiger at Shanghai Zoo(7 comments)
Good for the tiger. We should not be keeping large animals in captivity for entertainment or "education". We ought to be taught a lesson. Done. May it happen more often to us....human beings that just use this Earth at will with no thought that we are SHARING it, not ruling over it. Maybe if this keeps ... Full Comment>>

Another disgusting display of cruelty to animals. The rats were trying to eat. Now they're being used as a sickening, pathetic entertainment ploy, tied to a pole with rope no less. I'll say it again: Humans Suck! Full Comment>>
