Around China : WCG commented on news Netizens Favor Chinese Woman in New Alleged ‘Good Samaritan Scam’

Umm, I was walking through a crowd of people during the evening rush hour just three days ago and ran smack into a woman in her 50's knocking her to the ground (because I am bigger and I carry a heavy book bag). She started screaming in pain and said that I broke her hip. She complained to the police and said she ... Full Comment>>

Ok, sounds like he was either really drunk or he was pushed. Assuming there is some type of guard rail or other barrier on the bridge to at least keep the cars from flying over the side. Very strange indeed. Full Comment>>

Articles : WCG commented on news China's Banks Compared: Which Offer the Best Accounts for Foreigners?

Let's face it, there are problems with all of the banks listed above. It seems like every time I need to do something at the bank the bank teller stares at their computer screen trying desperately to understand how to do it. They need to train their employees better. If you have a special request that deviates from ... Full Comment>>

Articles : WCG commented on news What You Need to Know About Transferring Money Overseas From China

China restricts the free trade of its currency in order to offset the imbalance that other central banks cause by loose monetary policies. This is the reason for the quotas (500 USD daily limit) set on foreign currency exchange. The fact that China makes you convert your cash before sending it is actually very ... Full Comment>>

Articles : WCG commented on news Married but Alone? Survey Probes Couples’ Attitudes Towards Sexual Desires

I don't know what is more disturbing about this bogus survey. Is it the fact that more women find a safe sex partner rather than masturbate? Or, is it the fact that almost 1/3 of women surveyed would prefer their husband/boyfriend find a safe sex partner rather than masturbate. I think the answers coming from men are... Full Comment>>

Jay, that's just ridiculous! You need to look at Halliburton's financial statements. Then, if you can get Youtube, I recommend you watch an 8 part segment on exponential growth vs. limited resources called, "The most important video you'll ever see" by a statistician at the University of Colorado named Al Bartlett. ... Articles : WCG commented on news Can China Really Eclipse the US as the World’s Top Superpower?

Innovation is extremely important. Chuckberry did make a good point about modeling your business after an already existing successful business, such as Japan. In the US we have the phrase, "Fake it till you make it." However, it still requires innovation at some point in the future, some kind of competitive ... Full Comment>>

Jay, Jay, Jay. Sheesh! You guys obviously know nothing about the business world and how it collides with politics. Jay, you summed it up pretty nicely when you said "Halliburton is one of the very few major oil field services that can even take on contracts in Iraq." For Christ's sake, do I really need to explain ... Full Comment>>

Ha ha! You blind fool. What do you call over 7 billion in no-bid government contracts granted to Halliburton? Yeah, that's right, they rebuilt Iraq on the taxpayers dime. Just so happens to be a fact! Dick Cheney sat as the CEO just before taking office in 2000. Look it up. You're partially right. It may not all be ... Full Comment>>

@kikr, I'm sorry but what on earth is wrong with coming to China as a result of the economic crisis? I came here initially as a result of being laid-off from my government job back in 2008 because voters didn't approve of the budget. Articles : WCG commented on news A Pass to Simplicity – Credit Cards in China

I think we're saying the same thing, we're just looking at it in two different ways. I agree with you that Visa/MC has its own exchange rate, but then it goes to the issuing bank. The issuing bank then tacks on ANOTHER rate on top of the Visa/MC rate, which chisels away at the final conversion rate. Hence the crappy ... Full Comment>>

Articles : WCG commented on news A Pass to Simplicity – Credit Cards in China

The above breakdown is convoluted. Here is a simplified version using the rates above. Let's say you purchase a tea set in China for 500 RMB. You use your foreign credit card. If China (BOC) does the conversion (6.15 to 1) but charges you a 7% DCC fee, then you would be charged 86.99 USD total for the tea set. If ... Full Comment>>
