Sep 12, 2014 14:46Articles : jixiang commented on news Rape and Sexual Assault Against Women Are Increasing in China- Here Are Five Possible Reasons Why
Let me disagree with you on one point. It's untrue that "the rest of the world (except for Islamic nations) is in a different century". Throughout Asia, Africa and even Latin America, a lot of societies (not necessarily Islamic) have attitudes as backward of more backward than Chinese ones. Full Comment>>

Oct 23, 2013 15:50Articles : jixiang commented on news I’m Sure It’ll be Fine: Street Food and Food Safety Standards in China
Personally I avoid Chinese street food, but only because of my concern over gutter oil and other unsanitary and unhealthy practices. If it wasn't for that, I would be eating quite happily. It actually does taste good, and in principle would even be healthy. It's certainly better than hamburger and chips. By the way, ... Full Comment>>

Aug 05, 2013 10:24Articles : jixiang commented on news Can China Really Eclipse the US as the World’s Top Superpower?
I am not sure I see why a huge wealth gap between the rich and poor should get in the way of China becoming more influential in the world. The US also has a much higher wealth gap than European countries. It doesn't seem to stop them. The wealth gap may be morally reprehensible, but is it economically problematic? ... Full Comment>>

I don't mind people nt wearing a shirt. It may not look good, but it's not unhygienic like spitting on the floor, so it should be respected as a local custom. Full Comment>>

Jun 06, 2013 17:03Articles : jixiang commented on news ‘E’ is for ‘Elephant in the Room’: The Stigma of English Teaching in China
Come on, how is Chinese cooking not a culinary art? The variety of dishes and ingredients used is huge (although of course it is a big country). I find it to be both varied and delicious, at least when it's done properly. It may reflect the traditional poverty of the Chinese peasant, but that doesn't mean it has to ... Full Comment>>

Hate to spoil things, but I've just looked it up in Chinese, and I've found a website where it claims she is a Japanese maths teacher. If you look at the entire photo, you will notice that on the blackboard there is writing in English amongst the equations, rather than Chinese. The truth is this photo could have ... Full Comment>>

I think the way you speak about Chinese food is rather superficial. Of course I wouldn't want to eat the sort of Chinese food you eat in cheap restaurants or off streeet stalls every day, it's unhygienic and often quite horrible. On the other hand, the sort of Chinese food that Chinese people eat at home is actually ... Full Comment>>This comment has been deleted!

Yes, but I'm beginning to be rather fed up with people saying that China is going through the industrializing phase, and so we have to accept that it will take time etc.... China is not "going through a lot of maturing in a very short time that the rest of the world did over centuries." It didn't take centuries, at ... Full Comment>>This comment has been deleted!

I am not sure I like the way the author points to how he saw an attendant "bow their head to a passenger" in a South Korean train as an example of great service. Bowing is a Korean and Japanese cultural trait. Attendants would never bow to you in Europe or America. Full Comment>>This comment has been deleted!

Coffee replacing tea as China's beverage of choice? That's nonsense. Whoever wrote this needs to get away from their little circle of Westernized young people. 99% of Chinese people will go on drinking green tea. Full Comment>>This comment has been deleted!
