KTV, my guilty pleasure

KTV, my guilty pleasure

KTV. The saying goes you either love it or you hate it. I went through both.

At first I didn’t see the appeal of it. People singing badly to bad songs, or Chinese songs, and I wasn’t much of a singer myself. I didn’t get the appeal of most Chinese music, and it was always too loud for my liking.

Then a friend randomly took me to KTV, just the two of us. With some beer to set the mood and just the two of us, I opened up some more and sang some of the Chinese songs I knew. We would go to KTV often just the two of us, I learned some more songs, and I pushed my vocal range to its limits. The Chinese music started to grow on me, and I improved my singing.

Now I love KTV. One week I sang three nights in a row, with different groups of people. But the company has to be right. I can’t get into it if I don’t know more than half the people in the room. I prefer to sing Chinese songs since they help me with my Chinese. I also appreciate the artistry of some of the Chinese lyrics.

Any other KTV lovers out there?

I was so lucky to enjoy KTV the first time with my son and gracious hosts! I look forward to it again when I return to China. You are right, though...the company matters.
