Finding non-ESL jobs as a non-white foreigner in China for lower pay?

The process seems to be easier said than done. I so far have had one very enthusiastic person want to find out if I would work for his program, but the minute I stated I wanted the same salary he printed in his job post, he dissappeared. I've heard other stories of similar things happening. Sounds a lot like how things are in the US.

So it seems there is a foolish expectation by Chinese that non-white foreigners are expected to take lower pay all the time.

Any other experiences out there?

Being a Chinese with a foreign nationality who is trying to find a job in China sucks even more. Especially it seems impossible to a graduate to get a legal work visa in Beijing..

Not being white in China sucks. Being not-Chinese also sucks, but you can at least benefit from being white. Being Chinese sucks, too. There's a small upside: The really phony schools that hire light-skinned foreigners and locals for their face-value not their skill, will ignore oyu. So, you'll probably end up in a more education-oriented place doing meaningful work.
