Blogs : tigertiger commented on PolarBearMan 's blog Shenzhen’s New Good Samaritan Law

The article says, "This month two teenage boys who tried to rescue two girls from drowning were pressured to pay 50,000 yuan each to the girls’ families for failing to save them.". If the boys had done nothing, the girls will have died anyway, the boys were not at fault. The money will not bring the girls back. ... Full Comment>>

Blogs : tigertiger commented on Sinobear 's blog An Open Letter to China Telecom/Unicom/Mobile

if ever you fill in compulsory survey to register, put age as 70+, income the lowest bracket they have, occupations retired. That would put you in a demographic that no-one advertises for. And no counter assistant will challenge you answers or change them. They have done their bit in forcing you to fill it in. Full Comment>>

There is a big difference between dentistry and surgery (non-dental). I have had dental done, but only in top hospitals. I was advised by a top Chinese cardiologist to NOT have my heart surgery done here. Full Comment>>

Blogs : tigertiger commented on Moonlake 's blog When One Partner Wants to Stay in China and the Other Doesn’t

In a cross cultural marriage, you really can feel in a unique position. In reality, this is not just a multi-cultural marriage issue. All marriages have these life style choice issues. In some places like the USA/Australia/Canada the distance thing can be just as real as living in two countries. The househusband ... Full Comment>>

I understand the annoyance at people who abuse the system, and that may make it harder for those of us obeying the rules. I was told by a guvment guy that the last time they clamped down on enforcement of existing regs (2008), there was a major increase in tax revenues from foreigners. And again, the article is ... Around China : tigertiger commented on news New Sept 1 Visa Rules Highlight Illegal Residence Situations

Actually it is getting easier in many ways, see here lawandborder.com/?p=2707#more-2707. There are new classes of visa, including a spousal visa that will allow you to work. Students visa holders will also allow you to work (with some restrictions), and there is a new long term student visa. The new regs seem to be ... Full Comment>>
