Articles : sorrel commented on news 5 Ways Working in China has Changed My Work Style

Um, you seem to be suggesting that people were not doing these things already. Having worked in a business environment prior to my time in China, these were all common sense ways of managing things in the work-place - whatever country you worked in. China did not change my work style, as it seemed to surprise my ... Full Comment>>

Articles : sorrel commented on news 5 Cases of Reverse Culture Shock for Expats Who Leave China

Point 4 is completety wrong (and quite patronising). Meal times have always been a social occasion when phones are off and you spend time talking to family and friends. Barbecue;s and 'pot luck' meals at home are VERY soclal as the participants bring and share food. These can go on all day in the summer, lasting ... Full Comment>>

Articles : sorrel commented on news 5 Cases of Reverse Culture Shock for Expats Who Leave China

my 'reverse culture shock' included stepping out on a road when the pedestrian light was green (at home), and being suprised i was NOT almost run over by a motorist. Also when ordering food in a resturant NOT being suspicious of the meat served (in certain months). When random people stop to ask for something, (at ... Full Comment>>

Articles : sorrel commented on news 5 Tips for Smoother Communication in the Chinese Workplace

Point 4 - you should NOT 'tolerate' sexism / racism of any sort just becasue it is the 'cultural norm' in China. Just becasue people don't speak up about it does not mean it is acceptable. Privately many Chinese women don't like sexist remarks, but are afraid to speak up as they think/know it will impact their ... Full Comment>>

yes you are right. Adults who post on the internet clearly need their hand held when being told how to use the internet - like clicking on links suppled in an article that would bring them to a 'Jobs' section. Clearly being a teacher or a Copy Writer does not need someone who can use their initiatlve or demonatrate ... Full Comment>>

thanks WangNan. the thing about the internet is that it is anonymous, like the alias's people use. So I have 'got personal? One comment (like mine below) is 'personal' ?. you mis-spelled the word 'transparency' and also the word 'has' in your first sentence. Dr. Li Wenliang was all for ethical transparency. Not excusing the delayed response of some countries, but the lack of soap and toilet paper in China is an indication of the attitude to basic hygiene. suggestion: try re-reading ... Full Comment>>

you hurt my feelings !! boo hoo. @ nashboroguy. look in the jobs section. bring pro-active will show a potential employer that you are motivated. asking other people to do this for you is not going to make you stand-out as a potential employee - in fact it will make you look lazy. Use the internet to do your research. Full Comment>>

don't worry, by discriminating against Africans, the Chinese are NOT being racist. Nor are they being racist against anyone who is not Chinese. there are rules, and there is racial targeting (becasuse they can now). By and large people will obey the new rules, but when they are applied harshly to one group (i.e. non-Chinese) it is a bit racist. A compatriot of mine who has been resident for 18 years has found his neighbours become hostile and abusive, not ... Full Comment>>
