It has been found that studying a foreign language helps make your brain work. I must admit everytime I’m studying a foreign language hard meaning at
least three hours a day everything I do is easier.
Studying is like doing push ups with your brain. Consequently for me studying is like some other peoples playing cards The main difference is not only have I used my brain I have something tangible when I’m finished. This summer I spent 3 hours a day studying hoping to take a language test for a job.
I was very disappointed as I had spent months preparing for the exam but the government decided I was too old to
even test. months later something came up at the last minute and I went to China.
The studying I had done had made me as fluent as I have ever been in my life. I myself couldn’t believe it. Sometimes I couldn’t remember a word here and there but that happens in my mother tongue. An additional benefit came out of it also. My Spanish also improved. Normally when you study a new language the previous langaue goes dormant in your head until you are really solid in the new language. Now that both languages are solid they both improved
although I was only studying Mandarin. My enunciation in spainish also improved as I was using my brain and tongue.
If you want to keep sharp then study a foreign language regarless whether or not you can use it on a daily basis. It sharpens your thinking power!
