About Me

British father of 2 half-Chinese children (4 & 5 years old), looking for reliable job for the next school year. Emigrating from Germany, assistance with finding an apartment and enrollment for my children in a decent school nearby, will be much needed and appreciated.

Blogs : coineineagh commented on Coffaholic 's blog Bend Over Britain: China Will Save Your Ass

Maybe my son and I can ride the wave of diplomatic overtures to emigrate to britain before he's primary school age. We'll be back in China after his school years I think. Other than that, it's just a bunch of pompous, self-important nationalists throwing compliments and insults at eachother. Real people shouldn't ... Full Comment>>

China is more than just its GDP, and I agree with the blog that there's a disturbing trend of nepotism and over-reliance on family. I feel China is moving towards the USA, the country with the lowest social mobility in the world. If you're born rich, no matter how cleverly or stupidly you lead your life, it's very ... Blogs : coineineagh commented on tsonj 's blog Chinese Men and Nubian Women

Chinese negative opinions of black people, or Nubians, display an appalling lack of cultural sensitivity. Nonetheless, many expat minorities with negative stigmas ('opportunistic' American serial daters, for example) have little trouble finding a partner, simply due to the fact that there are so few foreigners here, ... Yes, for all the faults of China, perhaps we foreigners don't acknowledge that many Chinese streets are safe to walk at night. Safer than in the west at least. No small achievement. Full Comment>>

Education is abysmal, and I plan to emigrate with my son before he's 5 years old, before learn-by-rote gets too deeply entrenched. I wouldn't have chosen China at first, but I was forced here by immigration procedure delays in the Netherlands. Still, making a salary is easier in China, taxes are lower, and we live in... Truly insightful. I hope it gets translated and printed in Chinese newspapers. China does have an issue with apathy, lack of trust and confidence. But it's not as endtimes-disastrous as some would have you believe. China has undergone rapid changes, and like an embryo, it still needs to grow a spine to get a proper ... Full Comment>>

Articles : coineineagh commented on news Why Are China’s Most Talented Overseas Students Not Returning?

Excellent points, my fellow Dutchman, but I assume that this has already been extensively researched, to no avail. Perhaps the government tried to improve hygiene, habits and behaviour with some program or other, but I doubt it would have much effect. Habits are learned from childhood in China, and not easily ... As modest as Chinese women are, it's easy for westerners to get a date in China merely because we are relatively rare. I think "expats in China" is one of the few groups of people where it's pointless to try to shame people on the relationship level. Well, maybe some are lacking on the long-term relationship level, ... Full Comment>>

Please don't misinterpret my words. My sole generalization about Americans was: "The few I've met seem to resort to vulgar language too quickly for my taste." I meant it merely to characterize a difference in senses of humour, though I admit it was in response to mr. "You're a crackhead drunkard and don't forget to ... Full Comment>>

"Public nudity is merely an attention-getter" would be the stereotype Chinese like to make of the 'crazy foreigners', anyway, let's not discuss biases and stereotypes. You can't seriously claim that you thought it was an objective news report, after the last sentence: "May we suggest participation in the World Nude ... Full Comment>>

There's a plethora of real cultural differences as well as racist stereotypes to discuss here, but that isn't really the point. I only found your comment OTT because you called the article writer a crackhead or drunkard. Was that really necessary? It was a lighthearted piece written in good humour, and you hammered ... That's a bit OTT, don't you think? By Chinese standards, ths much nudity in such a short time is uncommon. And Shanghai women already have a reptation of being the easiest in the country. These mental cases aren't doing much for their rep. TBH I think the women are far more likely to have a psychological issue that ... Full Comment>>

Articles : coineineagh commented on news Is There a Growing Sentiment Towards Animal Welfare in China?

Dogs are seen as obedient and useful, and Chinese just love to copy tacky behaviours of the American middle class. So don't think that pampered lap-poodles means Chinese care about their pets. It's just another bourgeois status symbol, like an American car or a designer handbag. I had 3 cats, and cats are considered ... Full Comment>>
