Articles : musicjunkiealex commented on news British Teen Founds SpecialName.cn to Give English Names to Chinese Newborns

I applaud what she's done, I think it's a very novel idea. However, there must be more to this story. How did she get an ICP to get a .cn domain? To do that, and all the translation required as I doubt her Chinese was good enough simply from a family holiday, she either had a lot of external help or is simply very ... Full Comment>>

Articles : musicjunkiealex commented on news Five Ways that Parents Can Hurt their Children's English Learning Development

One big problem is that parents don't create an environment where the child feels like they're not going to be judged and constantly criticised for making mistakes. They don't understand that to try and fail is better than not trying at all, and won't praise a child's effort, they're only interested in the outcome. Full Comment>>

Articles : musicjunkiealex commented on news My Most Memorable Workmates in China

Having colleagues is one of the most overrated things on this planet. It's the primary reason why I work for myself. Articles : musicjunkiealex commented on news How to Become a Chinese Citizen

I really don't fancy giving up my rights to travel pretty much anywhere without restriction, right to free speech and a fair trial thank you very much, especially not so I can simply go to Xinjiang and Tibet in a more convenient manner and get some slight kudos from a citizenry that behaves in a manner zoo animals ... Articles : musicjunkiealex commented on news Take the Plunge: Everything You Need to Know about Scuba Diving in China

Diving in Hainan starts at around 600RMB per dive and goes upto around 1000RMB depending on dive site/logistics etc. Also, some of the better spots have an "Island landing fee" tax added on, which I believe is around the 140RMB mark. I was paying $75 for two dives in Bali last year, so you can see what a rip-off it is. Full Comment>>

Articles : musicjunkiealex commented on news Take the Plunge: Everything You Need to Know about Scuba Diving in China

Like most things worth doing in China, diving is ridiculously expensive by world standards and although I'm sure there are a few spots worth checking out I highly doubt it has anything close to what Indonesia and Philippines have to offer and those places are only a few hours and a cheap flight away. I have been ... Full Comment>>

The surrounding countries also have rapid inflation during CNY because of the influx of Chinese tourists. Quite frankly I have no idea how you put up with it. Telecommunications is one of the only areas where the cut-throat competition that capitalism brings is a major benefit, it keeps quality good and prices lower.
