Shanghai vs Delhi

Shanghai vs Delhi

While people would like to compare Mumbai with Shanghai , I chose not to , as Mumbai doesnt even come close to the kind of infrastructure Delhi has.

As a visitor to Shanghai I found three distinct marvels. One was the Bund area , which had this British touch to it and it can be compared to the Connaught Place in Delhi.

The second was the Chinese style buildings in the market area which reminded you of the old Delhi somewhat though in Delhi we would need to look away at the filth.

What really overawed me was the Pudong district. Unbelievably tall buildings. Neat roads, flyovers everywhere overlooking the river. The only place that would be 2% of this in Delhi would be Gurgaon.

Shanghai has come a long way and has cemented itself as a premier Global city. While Delhi is trying the same there is long way to catch up.

People are more comfortable in comparing Shanghai with the likes of New York, Tokyo and HK, while Delhi is compared more often the not to the undeveloped parts of the world.

Both the cities have extensive metro set up, but the quality of stations are not even close to being compared.

Having visited both the cities , I feel Delhi can eventually become a good Global city only if the Government implements good Governance and gives development the priority.
