Around China : seanpodge commented on news Two Foreigners Overstay Visa, One For 3 Years

Bit of a shame that you can't seem to take the time to read as far as word five, let alone the whole three paragraph saga, of the article before firing off a brain dead rant about people who are foreign being labelled "foreigners". Also, kudos for demanding that Chinese people, who I am reasonably sure didn't ... Full Comment>>

Around China : seanpodge commented on news China World’s Largest Importer of Food

Oh dear. Dare I suggest that the reason why China has become the largest importer of food has rather less to do with their attitudes towards dairy products and rather more to do with the issue of how to feed a fifth of the world's population with only a tenth of the world's arable land? It also has the world's ... Full Comment>>

Articles : seanpodge commented on news I’m Sure It’ll be Fine: Street Food and Food Safety Standards in China

I'd trust a bit of food that has been prepared right in front of me over something that has been sitting in a five star hotel's bain marie for four or five hours any day of the week. Articles : seanpodge commented on news Trapped: US Boss Held in Factory by Chinese Workers Over Dispute

Whilst I feel sorry for Starnes himself, given the ferociously high probability that the company involved located its manufacturing operations in China less due to benevolence and more due to wanting to take advantage of China's low wages and lack of workers' rights, I certainly don't feel any sympathy for the ... Articles : seanpodge commented on news CPPCC Member: English Learning in China “Destructive” to Chinese Education

I fail to see how Zhang Shuhua is being xenophobic in this article. In fact, much of what he says seems to suggest that he is critiquing the way English is taught rather than demanding that English be dropped from the curriculum. The government should consider what it aims to achieve with English education and how ... Full Comment>>

Articles : seanpodge commented on news CPPCC Member: English Learning in China “Destructive” to Chinese Education

Ummm, you do realise that the word "television" is, in a similar fashion to the Chinese word, a combination of two words, "tele" from Greek meaning far away, and "vision" from Latin, meaning to see. How this is any different from the Chinese example (except perhaps that the Chinese managed to actually come up with ... Full Comment>>
