(The following is a message I sent to the parents of all of my students here in Zhengzhou. If you are the parent of a child in school now, read this and you will understand your role in your child's education much better.)
Educating your child requires a team. The team consists of, your child's teacher, your child and you. All 3 are important to how much and how well your child learns. As a teacher, I am the instructor. In fact, we use the word 'instructor' in the USA to describe a teacher. I give your child instructions. Let me give you an example of what an 'instructor' or teacher does. I recently bought a radio at Dennis Supermarket. It came with 'instructions'. The instructions are no good until someone takes them out of the box and acts upon what the instructions say. The instructions should be clear and easy to understand. I will never get the benefit of listening to the radio unless I follow the instruction. My goal in buying the radio is no good unless I follow the instructions. The radio cannot play unless someone reads and follows the instructions.
In our classrooms, we give instructions. We not only tell your child 'what' to do, we show them 'how' to do it. Our books and other teaching resources give very clear and easy to follow instructions. But, the instructions are no good until someone applies them (takes action).
Now, you as a parent, must see to it that your child practices what we have instructed them to do in our classes. You send your child to me to instruct them. I do this in my English training and I do it well. I have proof from all of the students who have been with us for more than a year. Their English exam scores in their school have gone up considerably. It is rare that we have a student who has been learning from us for more than a year and half, who doesn't score above 90 on their exams. The students who have been with us the longest, often score 100 on their school's English exams. Most parents tell us that not only do their English scores go up, but, scores in other subjects go up considerably as well. The reason for that is, we aren't just teaching them English. We are opening their minds to whole brain learning. This actually changes their brain chemistry to learn faster, easier and happier.
You pay me (the teacher) for results. But remember, my job is to give instructions to your child. We cannot go home with them and insure that they take action upon what we have taught them in our classes. You, as their parent, must insure that this is done. You are a very important part of the team involved in giving your child effective English training.
So we are a team. You pay me to instruct your child. We are very confident that we give your child the best English training that they can get. Again, we have proof in our highly successful, long term students. We need your cooperation to get the greatest results for your child. Insure that they practice and take the instructions we've given them so that they can achieve excellence in their English education. Thank you.
