China is going to cancel English in Colleage entrance exams

English being a main subject for students in China  has caused lots of arguments in the last few years as China is becoming stronger and stronger . Lots of people begin to claim that English should NOT be a compulsory subject for student but a selective one .It is bringing too much difficulties and pressures to stusdents ,and time paid to study English is way too much ,which at the same time is reducing time for other subjects . Yet some people still support to force students learn English ,cause it is easier than many other languages and most used international language .China is right now in a special developing period and international communication is more and more important .

Right now there is still not confirmed news that China is really going to do this but if this really happens one day , what shall all the expats do for a living ? and is this really good for China's future development ?

There are some voices saying that in the future Chinese is going to be most spread and used language in the world ,so it would be useless to learn English . Well ,as a chinese ,I m proud of this kind of thoughts but apprantly ,it is not so realisom .

First of all ,Chinese is one of the few languages which have tones , and this is quite difficult for foreigners that have 0 knowledge of tonual languages to master .

Secondly , there is not a single rule to guide you how  to pronounce Chinese characters ,you have to remember everything totally by heart ,which is difficult for a grown .Besides ,even the same character sometimes would have 2 or even 3 pronouciations and different meanings regarding each pronouciation .

For me , I was in school since 6 years old and untill 10 or 11 I began to master most of the daily used characters and something called 成语 which is another difficult point for foreigners .And when I was 13 ,I started to learn ancient Chinese (not the traditional characters but artciles from 2000 years ago ) ,we call it 文言文 . Honestly ,if nowdays people are still using 文言文for daily communication , I believe NOT a single foreigner would be willing to learn Chinese any more .

Anyway back to the topic ,I totally disagree canceling English as a main subject is a good idea .Even a developed country like France , English is a must subject . Chinese people have lost contacts from the outside world for too long time , we can but only see what the country is telling us ,so we have no idea how the world is really like .

Besides ,even if English is a selective subject in the end ,I m not confident that students would be willing to choose it .

Of corse ,reducing the amount of people speaking English can help to block'' bad ''information against China from western countries .This is the biggest '' good '' point i see so far  Also students really are burdened with too much pressure ,removing English is like sending these suffering kids to paradise .

I have faith in my country ,I hope in the end ,English is NOT going to be removed from Chinese eductation history .
