Two decent looking, friendly Chinese woman approached us at Forbidden City and after introductions and a short conversation asked if we wanted to join them for a walk to the street market. We were looking for a place to eat and they suggested we go to a juice bar get a beer and then something to eat. We told them that we don't drink but juice would be nice. We walked a while and went into a small juice bar. It was a bit pricy! Being on a tight budget I ordered the cheapest I could find on the menu, botteled water for 10 RMB - they didn't have? My daughter was very thirsty so I ordered the orange juice for 30 RMB and had sip. My friend ordered coffee - the cheapest one - they didn't have? And took the second cheapest. They ordered tea and said we could share. I don't drink Chinese tea, my daughter didn't have any' it was too hot. My friend had one cup. By this time I was suspicious but too tired to click. The bill came and the woman said 370, in my tired mind I was thinking 37 doesn't seem right because the juice was 30. My friend took out the 250 that was in his wallet and gave it to them, the two ladies paid in the difference. We were shocked! There were two small plates of crisps on the table that we didn't order but paid 50 for each. I figured we were just taken, made an excuse and parted ways. As we walked away everything started sinking in and after talking about it amongst ourselves we put it all together and realized the big picture. This is what these two ladies do ! They meet westerners, take them to the juice bar, see how much money they can get from them and then each takes his cut ! Disgusting. We went back and took a photo of the juice bar and owner. She offered us a free bottle of orange juice which we refused. You should have seen her face - caught with her hand in the cookie jar.
