Hi everybody, when I left Kunming back in 2014 me and my good friends had a fantastic good bye party in one of Kundu’s club (the Chinese call them jiuba酒吧 bar). Kundu was the night life zone of the spring city (just another appellative of Kunming 春城) .

3 years later, here I am, back in Kunming with this fabulous reminiscence of Kundu but you know what? The government shut it down. Apparently, the reason is that the area where the entire club where located belongs to the army, which got quite upset about the mess that was going on every night. Well, to them may it looks like mess but to us it was just fun, drinking dancing and so on.

Kundu was plenty of clubs just to mention some I remember: Muse, Baby, Mask, M2O

First, for foreigners like us the night would begin at the Moondog (still opened but with new owners, no fun dead place, nobody goes there anymore) where to drink few beers, play some foosball, meet other foreign friends and secondly go to one of the aforementioned clubs. Third, once you get in a club it was common practice to wait for several minutes and a beautiful Chinese girl would have showed up inviting to drink at her table with her friends, the game is on. Fourth, if everything went in the appropriate path you would end up with the girl until sunrise, otherwise the party continues at the KTV with cascades of Chinese beer. Fifth, eventually a relaxing ending at a SPA. Finally, you go home, that s another day.

Now where to go for enjoying nightlife in Kunming?

Moondog has been replaced by "the Turtle" in Jianshe Road 180 (建设路协信天地1楼11号商铺).

For the clubs it is still too soon but there is a rumor in the air that they are coming back.
