            ——Liu Bang(8)

Written by Judy Feng Liu/株棣

This person was Zhang Er. In fact, Zhang Er had not achieved a great success when he followed Xin Ling Jun. But because of this experience of him, he still had a good life rely on the past reputation after Xin Lin Jun’s death.

Maybe because he had learnt to be generous in aiding needy people when he followed Xin Ling Jun, so he began to lash out after he made an itinerant living on his own, and he made some famous friends. But after a while, a very realistic problem was appeared in front of him– he ran out of money.

However, it seemed like that the God liked Zhang Er so much. The friends he got were kindly to help him when he was poor. Especially one of his friends who lived in Waihuang (a place’s name in Wei Kingdom during the Warring States period) invited him to go to Waihuang. That friend said that there was something good waiting for him.

When Zhang Er arrived at Waihuang, he found out that the good news was the richest man’s daughter in that place wanted to change her husband because she was not satisfied with her husband. The friend of Zhang Er thought Zhang Er was suitable, so, he intended to propose marriage to her for Zhang Er (It was so open for marriage or divorce in China before the Song Dynasty).

With no doubt, Zhang Er was willing to marry a rich wife. So, he was agreed happily. He got that rich daughter’s love by his resounding reputation. And soon he became her new husband, and then he became the county magistrate of Waihuang. In addition, Zhang Er also met Chen Yu who was a celebrity. Chen Yu became to one of his best friends.

Liu Bang admired Zhang Er so much. So, this time, he wanted to meet up Zhang Er. He wanted to learn how to be a man and how to do things. And without doubt, if he could learn how to marry a good wife would be better.
