I work at a senior middle school in Jiangsu Province, China, the high school equivalent in the United States. Blogs : juanisaac Posted a new blog Small Town Heroes

Whenever I look at a map of China I see that the cities are not named after people. In many countries, cities are named after heroes and political leaders like Washington D.C. or Lincoln, Nebraska in the United States. Chinese people prefer the ancient names of places as one of my colleagues remarked “We like ...

Blogs : juanisaac commented on leshel 's blog What Chinese Learners think of English

The person writing this blog is taken to task not for where she is from, but for not proofreading better what she wrote. Whenever I write an e-mail, I always make sure I proofread it one or two times before I send it. And even then I will have mistakes, but less so. Speaking and writing are two different things. ... Articles : juanisaac commented on news CPPCC Member: English Learning in China “Destructive” to Chinese Education

A few of my students complain about learning English. But then I ask them "How do Chinese talk to eachother?" In Putonghua, they answer. I then ask them, how will Chinese people talk with the rest of the world? The answer is obvious. English is an international language now more so than an imperial one. How can ... Full Comment>>
