An equal marriage

An equal marriage

In traditional Chinese marriage, the bride and the bridegroom must be well-matched in social and economic status. This could ensure the willingness of both of their families to accept each other. Moreover, the relatives and friends of the new couple would take it for granted. Such marriage based on equality lays a solid foundation for a harmonious life for the new family. The newly-weds would have much in common. This union is more realistic and rational than that formed by a pair of romantics from quite different backgrounds. These unequal marriages are in the minority. Although they can survive for some time in the name of true love, the harsh reality and time would teach their practitioners how irrational they are.
