Recently it has become very popular for westerners to study Chinese medicine. It Granada Spain there are doctors everywhere as the university is famous for its medical school. The problem is after students come here to study no one wants to leave. There is not enough work for so many doctors. Even a lot of the bar tenders are doctors. Now a number of the doctors have started studying Chinese medicine. Many people have not been cured by western medicine so they go to someone who specializes in Chinese medicine. The Concept of Chinese medicine is quite different from western medicine as they treat the whole person as opposed to just a foot as a spare part. Also there are quite a few Asians now living in Granada who prefer Chinese medicine to western medicine. A lot of the Chinese don’t speak Spanish so the doctors have been studying mandarin to be able to communicate with them and to further their knowledge of Chinese medicine. Also the other practices such as acupuncture have also come to the west . It is even being used for horses.  I witnessed it only once but it worked. A Chinese acupuncture specializing in Horses treated a Dutch horse that had been in a stall too long due to travel. The horse’s leg had cramped and he couldn’t move it. The Chinese acupuncturist took out his needles and applied them to the back of the horse. The leg of the horses heated up and bingo the cramp disappeared and the horse walked normally again. Due to the interest in these different kind of medical practices many people are now studying mandarin.
